A Real Mother's Day

My day started out great. I had two requests: first, I wanted to sleep in. Second, no dishes. Both wishes were fulfilled. I slept in, (waking up on and off) with earplugs and an eye mask, until 8:45 am. It was fabulous. I woke up and studied the New Testament for Sunday School, uninterrupted. It was lovely. The kids and Scott came in with scrambled eggs, toast, and a basketball water bottle for breakfast. So far, my day was going great!

Scott is now the Young Men's President, so he has meetings from 11-1:30 on Sundays. We have church from 1:30-4:30 now. So the kids and I were alone for a lot of the morning, but even that went well. Brookie took a nap, and we rushed off to church, as usual (does anyone else have this problem? No matter what time church is, we are rushing!)

Anyhow, my mom brought Brookie to me from the nursery after our first hour. She was a little droopy, a little feverish, and just cuddly. I held her on my lap during Sunday School. All was going fine, until we got into sacrament meeting. I was talking to someone while holding Brooke, when all of the sudden I was covered with puke. She proceeded to throw up over and over, all over me, the pew, Alisa. It was a mess and stinky.

I am so grateful for Scott and my parents! My mom got right to work with wet rags, Scott took Alisa, and I took Brookie to clean up. B and I went home while my parents helped Scott with the kids for the last hour. Brooke was so distraught that she got my shirt dirty and her dress dirty. Over and over she told me how she coughed and how my shirt was messy. Poor thing. She perked up after some ibuprofen, and we had a good rest of the day. Bless Scott for cooking and cleaning even though he was sick himself.

She ended up "coughing" again while sleeping. I'm glad I checked on her before I went to bed. She was lying in a pool of throw up. Poor girl! She's been ok so far today, so that's good.

I just can't help but thinking that what I experienced was a real Mother's day--the kind when you are a mother, even when you want a break. Overall, I had a great day and I felt very blessed not only to be a mother, but to have a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, and grandmothers.

I hope Mother's day was more restful for all of you!!! :)
